    purchased this for my single cat home.

    faced it towards the window.

    even encouraged her to sit inside it by placing her healthy cat treats inside. interacting with her while doing so.

    now, she practically lives out of it. the fact that it faces the window only gets her even more comfortable for those afternoon naps and birdwatching.

    We purchased this Cat Craft BirdHouse about a month ago because it looked like a great deal based on all the shopping we did online and at our local pet shops. However, when the product arrived, we were disappointed to find that the color of the carpet was POWDER BLUE! The description on the shipping box and on Amazon’s website claimed that it came in assorted NEUTRAL COLORS. Well obviously, BLUE is not a neutral color. Besides the color issue, we also had some issues with the build quality of this first one.

    1) The carpet on the underside of the base was run too far into the center which got in the way of the posts screwing into the base. We were unable to get the posts to tighten all the way because the carpet was getting in the way on one side of the posts. This resulted in the whole unit having some wiggle to it, and it also leaned to the back.

    2) The scratch post rope was not wound using a single piece of rope. Instead, two pieces were used and sharp staples were used to secure the two pieces together. This seam was right in the middle of the post where our kittens would put their paws. We covered the staples with duct tape which worked well.

    3) Pieces of carpet yarn kept coming out of the nap, getting all over the place.

    So… After putting it all together, even though our two kittens LOVED playing on this thing, we decided that there were too many issues with this unit to keep it, so we requested an exchange. Amazon was out of stock, so we had to wait over two weeks for the replacement to arrive. It was WELL WORTH THE WAIT!

    The replacement house arrived today and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! This one is EVERYTHING we were expecting when we first ordered this! First of all, the replacement was a nice dark beige color that matched our own carpet and furniture. Also, the nap of the carpet was shorter and looked and felt like a much better quality of carpet. Unlike the first house, the carpet under the base was not in the way of the posts, so we were able to screw the posts in nice and tight.

    After putting it all together the whole feel of the product compared to the first one was night and day! Our cats loved their first house even with all the problems, and they love this new one even more! When they jump and play on it, the unit stays nice and stable and doesn’t wobble back and forth like the first one did. All we can think of is that the first unit was made by a new employee who didn’t know what they were doing. The difference between the two is so great that it almost seems like they were made by different companies! None of the problems we had with the first unit are present in the replacement!

    I would have given this product 5 stars if it had not been for all the problems we had with the first one. Thanks to Amazon and their excellent return/exchange system, the whole process of getting a good one was painless.

    So… If you buy one of these and run into any of the issues we detailed in this review, our advice would be to contact Amazon and request an exchange. Hopefully the first unit we received was a fluke and all of the birdhouses in the new allocation Amazon is now selling are as good as the second one we got.

    This replacement birdhouse is worth every penny of the $98.98 we spent. We couldn’t find anything locally this large and this nice for less than $250.00 and nothing we looked at was this same kind of design.

    We got a pair of new kittens we kept in a separate room at first to be sure they got kitten food, and not too much of the adult stuff.

    I wanted them to have another spot to hide and relax.

    It is beautiful. Well constructed.. and the flat surface on top of the roof is sometimes used for little lounging felines too.

    New kittens are “free” now, so the other kitties in the house love getting in there and taking their turn. This is a nice size – replaced an arm chair we used to keep in that corner.
